The Art of Reading™ 2011-2012 Season

The objective of the The Art of Reading™ program is to inspire creative inquiry by developing visual literacy skills and experiencing a variety of art media. The monthly picture book selection is used as an art form for children to look at and learn how the illustrator/artist has told a story with pictures. Children are encouraged to read along and interact with the teacher.
Following the story, the child and participating caregiver (mom, dad, grandma, nanny or whomever is with the child) will be given art materials to create while following the SPLAT Studio™ teacher in a teacher directed art activity. Of course, the adult’s participation in the art activity is purely optional.? Art activities will be inspired by the illustrator’s style, media and the theme of the picture book.
The Art of Reading™ programming has undergone some changes for the 2011-2012 season as it has grown in popularity. The age grouping has been narrowed in an effort to focus more specifically on the needs of the children ages 2 and 3 and the children ages 4, 5 and 6.
The classes are offered the 3rd Tuesday and Wednesday of the month and are as follows:
Preschool Classes
Ages 4-6 – Tuesdays – 10:00-11:00 a.m. -
September 20, October 18, November 15, December 20, January 17, February 21, March 20, April 17, May 15 – Fee: $12
Ages 2-4 – Wednesdays – 10:00-11:00 a.m. -
September 21, October 19, November 16, December 21, January 18, February 22, March 21,April 18, May 16 – 10-11 a.m. – Fee: $12
*Note: February’s class is the 4th Wednesday
Ages 2-6 – Wednesday – 5:00-6:00 p.m. -
September 21, October 19, November 16, December 21, January 18, February 22, March 21, April 18, May 16 – 10-11 a.m. – Fee: $12
*Note: February’s class is the 4th Wednesday
Enroll 2 children in same class and receive sibling discount.
(Price includes materials for both child and parent.)
*New School Age Class
Ages 6-12 – Tuesdays – 5:00-6:00 p.m. -

Single Class Tuition: $12 per class
